Often we perceive gymnasts and other athletes who participate in the Olympics have it all sorted out with their single periodic dream – to go for the gold at the Olympic Games. It’s certainly crossed our minds that all they do is train, besides, what else do they have to struggle about?
Teen Vogue features a double dose of two young athletes Gabby Douglas & Simone Biles whose relatable struggles are stepping stones and objects of inspiration for their goal.
Gabby Douglas started out homeless and was never saw herself in the limelight. According to Gabby,
“It took a long time for me to see my own potential – a long time”
“Sometimes I’m like, why are all those people taking pictures of the wall? And then I realize I am standing in front of it” Gabby is 20.
Although vertically challenged, Simone overtime appreciated her physique and saw it as an advantage even though it made her self-conscious.
“I was built this way for a reason, so I’m going to use it,”
“To go out there and prove what I can do has taught me a lot about who I am,” she adds. “We can push ourselves further. We always have more to give.”
We have more to give than we think we do. How would you know unless you push?
