Colours Of Life With A Touch Of Melanin – VIDO (COLOUR MANIA)
The creative mind is never exhausted; when exhausted, it is a there or thereabouts a valid course to be ingenious. Here is a look at one flamboyantly ingenious work of art by Nigerian Creative MUA Kazeem, popularly known as CassKoncept.
Photographed by Seye Kehinde and modelled by Ghana’s own Gina Akala, the team brings to live a showcase in a theme of the colours of life recognized on an individual’s notable self – captioned VIDO (COLOUR MANIA)
WHAT’S THE STORY BEHIND THIS PROJECT?
Not much story behind it, just how I came up with the colours. Every day, I see people appear in different colours and shapes. The box on Gina’s head depicts patience about life. If you check the setting of the colours, they are all of the same size and shape. The one on the neck represents life in a hasty way, whereas the shapes and sizes on her neck are quite huge and vary.
WHY IS THAT?
Everybody struggles trying to make use of the chances and grace they have. In the end, they still want to ‘pop out’.
HOW ABOUT THE MODEL’S EXPRESSIONS? ARE THEY ANY SIGNIFICANT?
The expressions of the model screams focus no matter where you are or how much space you’ve got in life… and energy too. She’s got that African feature to pull out the look. I’d been searching for that look for some time now and found Gina as the right model to pull it off.
WAS THE PROJECT DIFFICULT TO EXECUTE?
That colour setting took me some days to finish. It took between 2-3weeks, but only because I had a lot on my plate.
Life is colourful no matter how one views it. If it’s just black and white for others, it’s in fact okay, because without black, no colour has any depth.
